Paid Search Landing Pages and Qualified Conversions: Connecting Ads to Real Enquiries

A paid search campaign should connect a relevant advert with an accurate landing page and a measurable business outcome. Clicks and submitted forms are useful observations, but they do not establish that the business received a suitable enquiry or completed a sale.

Match the destination to the actual promise

Explain the advertised offer clearly at the destination. Keep service, location, eligibility and next-step wording consistent. Provide useful original information rather than repeating a keyword throughout the page.

If an advert offers a consultation, clarify how it is requested and what follows. Check whether the team can provide it under the stated conditions. Avoid unavailable promotions or claims the operational service cannot support.

Give visitors usable routes

Keep the campaign's main action easy to identify while providing essential reassurance and useful navigation. Visitors may need delivery details, service limitations or an alternative route before deciding. A focused page should not trap them.

Review the page on mobile and with the keyboard. Test form errors, confirmation and actual enquiry delivery. A polished layout does not guarantee better advertising performance, so connect design decisions with observed problems and evidence.

Use Quality Score as a diagnostic

Google Ads Quality Score considers expected click-through rate, advert relevance and landing page experience. The displayed score is a diagnostic, not a business key performance indicator or an input to the ad auction.

Use its components to investigate possible improvements alongside other evidence. Do not aggregate the score as a substitute for qualified enquiries, contribution or customer outcomes. Record which issue is being addressed and how the change will be assessed.

Define meaningful enquiry states

Agree what counts as a received enquiry, a qualified lead, a request needing clarification and a confirmed mismatch. Keep qualification separate from a later completed business outcome. Give the reviewing team explicit criteria and a consistent way to record them.

For example, a completed form could be technically successful but outside the service area. Keep that distinction visible in reports. A platform's qualified-lead category does not supply the business's qualification judgement automatically.

Check which actions influence bidding

Under selected standard goals in Google Ads, primary conversion actions are used for bidding and reported in Conversions. Secondary actions generally support observation in All conversions. Actions in custom goals can be used for bidding regardless of the primary or secondary label.

Inspect the actual campaign goals and configuration before interpreting performance. A secondary label alone is not enough to conclude that an action has no bidding effect. Record changes, so later comparisons can account for them.

Interpret counts and reporting windows

The One counting setting counts one conversion per ad click for a tracked action. Separate conversion actions can still add separate counts. This does not deduplicate all people, telephone calls and CRM enquiries across the business.

A conversion window defines the period after an eligible advertising interaction during which a conversion can be recorded. Check the action's actual setting and reporting context. It is not a complete description of the customer's buying journey.

Connect later outcomes responsibly

Supported offline import arrangements can connect later business outcomes with eligible advertising interactions. Scope the identifiers, matching, consent, permissions and error handling for the current integration. Verify the actual supported requirements before implementation.

Importing an outcome is different from proving that advertising alone caused it. Hashed customer data should not be treated as anonymous merely because it has been transformed. Share only appropriate information through an approved process.

Campaign review checklist
