A useful search journey starts with a real question and ends with information the reader can act on. Titles, internal links, images and technical access should support that journey. They cannot rescue content that has no clear purpose.
Define the page purpose
Write down who needs the page, what they need to decide and what useful next step it supports. Compare the proposed page with existing content. Extend a relevant guide when the new material belongs there instead of publishing another interchangeable answer.
Use enough space to explain the decision, with examples and limitations where they help. Google does not prescribe a preferred word count. A useful checklist may be short; a complex migration needs more explanation. Judge completeness against the reader's task.
Use demand estimates within their scope
Keyword research can suggest language and demand, but its metrics need definitions. Keyword Planner's average monthly searches depend on the selected period, location and network, include close variants and are rounded. Advertising forecasts also consider factors such as bids and budget.
These measures do not directly predict qualified organic visitors or enquiries. Combine them with customer questions, service knowledge and evidence from existing pages. Record the reason for producing the content before investing in a large topic cluster.
Review originality, facts and generated material
Explain the practical application in your own words and provide useful decisions, worked examples or checks. Verify material facts and preserve the distinction between an illustrative example and an observed business result. Do not present someone else's research as your own.
Review AI-assisted drafts manually for accuracy, relevance and omissions. Apply the same care to titles, descriptions, structured data and image alternatives. Producing many pages without added value can violate Google's scaled-content abuse policies. A private editorial score is not a ranking guarantee.
Make titles and identity consistent
Use a concise, accurate title that distinguishes the page. Avoid excessive repetition and descriptions that promise more than the article delivers. Review the visible heading, title element and sharing fields together.
Google generates displayed title links using several signals, so stored text is not always the observed result. Its site-name system also considers homepage signals, including WebSite structured data and other name references. Keep identity information coherent and inspect actual presentation without promising an immediate change.
Link to a genuinely useful next step
Use descriptive link text and sufficient surrounding context for the reader to understand the destination. Choose the section that advances the task, rather than inserting every related keyword. Verify that the target is available and says what the link promises.
A source can inform editorial research without every article becoming a directory of suppliers. When linking to an owned explanation, describe it honestly as that explanation. Paid and user-generated links require appropriate relationship handling where applicable; attributes such as sponsored or ugc do not establish factual accuracy.
Keep images and filtered pages purposeful
Choose media that explains the actual topic. Give informative images suitable alternatives and check delivery, context and cropping. A well-named file cannot make an unrelated photograph useful.
Filtering can help customers while generating very large URL spaces. Decide which combinations deserve maintained search landing pages before choosing crawling controls. Useful interaction and useful indexable content are separate questions. Check the site's generated routes and avoid letting speculative combinations dominate publication.
Place answers where people need them
Review whether a frequently asked question belongs beside the relevant service information or form field. An FAQ section is appropriate when it supplies a coherent answer collection, but duplicated answers can make maintenance harder.
For example, explain an enquiry response expectation near the enquiry route, then keep any broader guide consistent with it. A historical editorial approach used by another organisation is not a universal ban on business FAQs. Test whether readers can find the answer in the task they are completing.
Measure AI search visibility accurately
Google announced dedicated Search Generative AI performance reports in June 2026 and recorded worldwide rollout by 31 August 2026. They provide views of impressions and page visibility in Google's generative AI features. Their scope does not include every interaction with unrelated AI tools.
Record the report, dates and dimensions used. Separate observed visibility from inferred mentions or enquiries. Review the public page's usefulness and technical access, then measure changes against an appropriate baseline rather than assuming a content edit caused every fluctuation.
An editorial publication check
- Confirm the distinct customer question and useful next step.
- Verify facts, examples and generated material.
- Review titles, identity, images and metadata.
- Test descriptive internal links and available targets.
- Maintain purposeful page and filter relationships.
- Define measurement scope and follow-up ownership.
The search reporting guide explains measurement limits. Our structured data guide covers accurate entity representation and validation.
